What happened
ABC Supply Co., Inc. ("ABC Supply"), a national distributor of roofing, siding, and other building materials headquartered at One ABC Parkway in Beloit, Wisconsin, detected unauthorized activity within its computer network and moved to secure its systems. A subsequent investigation confirmed that specific files containing personal information were accessible to the unauthorized actor. The company states that it has not found evidence of identity theft resulting from the incident and is notifying affected individuals out of an abundance of caution.
Written consumer notices dated August 7, 2026 were sent to affected individuals, and the incident was reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General, whose filing lists 43 Massachusetts residents. The notice states that the data involved includes Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers. ABC Supply is offering two years of complimentary IDX identity protection services, including credit monitoring, CyberScan dark web monitoring, account takeover alerts, up to $1 million in identity theft insurance, and fully managed identity recovery, with an enrollment deadline of November 7, 2026. The public notice does not state when the unauthorized activity began, when it was detected, or how many individuals were notified nationwide.
Because Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers can be used to open fraudulent credit accounts, file false tax returns, and commit other forms of identity theft, the categories of data reportedly involved in this incident raise heightened concerns. Whether ABC Supply's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and how long the unauthorized activity went undetected before it was discovered, are among the issues being evaluated.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter contains the enrollment code for the free IDX identity protection services and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Enroll in the free two-year IDX identity protection services
Enroll in the IDX credit monitoring, CyberScan dark web monitoring, and identity recovery services offered in your letter by the November 7, 2026 deadline, using the enrollment code printed on your notice. You can enroll at app.idx.us or by calling the dedicated line at 1-833-788-9712. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers were reportedly involved, you should also place a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file with all three major bureaus, watch for unfamiliar tax filings or unemployment claims under your Social Security number, and consider notifying your state's motor vehicle agency about the potential misuse of your driver's license number.
