What happened
On May 4, 2026, Accretech America, Inc. experienced a ransomware attack on some of its systems. On May 7, 2026, the company's parent issued a press release regarding the attack, and Accretech held an employee town hall on May 20, 2026 to advise that the personal information of employees and their dependents may have been exposed during the incident.
According to the notice, Accretech says it moved to contain the incident by shutting down its network and suspending the use of affected systems, engaged outside cybersecurity specialists to determine the cause and scope, and reported the matter to law enforcement. The notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General states that the information involved may have included names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or other government identification numbers, financial account numbers, healthcare payment information, and healthcare insurance information. Accretech recommended that affected individuals enroll in LifeLock and offered to reimburse the cost for up to 18 months of coverage.
Whether Accretech's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, the full number of individuals affected across all states, and whether the exposed files were actually accessed or removed during the ransomware attack, are among the issues being evaluated.
