What happened in the Baanx US data breach
In a notice letter dated October 30, 2026, Baanx US states that between approximately September 23, 2026 and September 28, 2026 and on or about approximately October 17, 2026, unknown unauthorized parties accessed certain personal information associated with certain U.S. user accounts of the Crypto Life program it offers. The letter says this happened "including via a third-party service provider's access and via an internal administrative system." Baanx US says the unauthorized access has been contained and that, based on its investigation to date, it has found no evidence that customer funds were accessed.
The letter filed with the California Attorney General says the incident may have impacted first and last name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, transaction history, password (hashed), MFA token (in encrypted form) and Social Security number, to the extent individuals provided such data to Baanx US as part of an application for or participation in the Crypto Life program. The letter says passwords and two-factor authentication were reset for Crypto Life accounts, and it offers 24 months of identity protection services and credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks, with enrollment by January 29, 2027. The incident was also reported to the Vermont Attorney General on October 31, 2026.
The letter does not say when Baanx US discovered the incident, does not name the third-party service provider, and does not state how many people were affected. Whether the company's security practices met legal standards is among the issues being evaluated.
