What happened
According to the notice Catalyst Brands LLC filed with the California Attorney General, an unauthorized third party gained access to third-party servers that support the company's human resources and payroll services on or around May 26, 2026. Catalyst Brands states that it learned personal information had been obtained from those systems on August 5, 2026, and that it then worked to determine whose information was involved before mailing notification letters dated September 4, 2026.

This notice itemizes an unusually broad set of data elements, and the categories reported are the ones typically held in payroll and onboarding files: first and last name, Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license number, passport number, Alien Registration number, U.S. military or other government-issued identification number, contact information, financial account number without access credentials, email address or username together with a password or security question answer, and digital signature. That combination supports new-account identity theft, tax and benefits fraud, direct fraud on existing accounts, and account takeover, and identification documents cannot be reissued as easily as a payment card.
