What happened in the CodeSecure data breach
CodeSecure ("CodeSecure"), whose letterhead lists an address at 150 West 30th Street in New York, New York, reported a data security event to the Massachusetts Attorney General and the Vermont Attorney General on October 28, 2026. In the letter filed in Massachusetts, the company says it is writing about "an event that may affect the privacy of certain information" and that, upon learning of the event, it moved to investigate and respond, assess the security of its network, and notify affected individuals. The letter does not say when the event happened, when it was discovered, or how it occurred.
The posted copy of the letter leaves the data categories as placeholders, so it does not show what was involved for each person. The Massachusetts filing lists financial account information and Social Security numbers and reports 13 Massachusetts residents affected. The Vermont filing lists Social Security numbers, health records and login credentials and reports 3 Vermonters affected. CodeSecure says it notified law enforcement, is not aware of any identity theft or fraud occurring as a result of this event, and is offering 24 months of identity monitoring through Kroll.
The posted letter's date is a placeholder, so the date letters went out is not shown. Whether CodeSecure's security practices before the event met legal standards is among the issues being evaluated.
