What happened in the fairlife data breach
fairlife, which lists its address as 1001 W. Adams Street in Chicago, Illinois, says that between July 7 and 10, 2026, an unauthorized third party accessed a portion of fairlife's network and obtained certain files from some of its systems. fairlife says that after learning of the issue, it began an investigation with the assistance of cybersecurity experts, reported the matter to law enforcement, and took steps to contain the unauthorized activity. fairlife has not said when it learned of the issue.
fairlife reviewed the affected files and determined that some of them contain personal information. Its notice letter, dated October 15, 2026, says the affected files contained personal information such as name, contact information (for example, email and postal address and phone number), date of birth, government-issued identification numbers (for example, Social Security number, driver's license number or passport number), bank account number (without a security or access code), and health-related information. The letter adds that not all of this information was impacted for each affected individual. The Massachusetts filing and the New Hampshire filing both include this sample letter with the same list. The letter offers two years of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services.
The Vermont Attorney General's Security Breach Notices table lists Social Security Numbers, Government ID Numbers, Financial Account Codes, Credit and Debit Account Info, and Health Records for this report, and counts 2 Vermonters affected. The Massachusetts filing lists 42 Massachusetts residents, and the cover letter to the New Hampshire Attorney General says fairlife is notifying one New Hampshire resident. Whether fairlife's security practices met legal standards, and how long it took to notify people after learning of the issue, are among the issues being evaluated.
