Background

What happened in the Ford AV data breach

On or about February 15, 2026, Ford AV became aware of suspicious activity on its systems that resulted in a network disruption, according to its notice letter. The letter says an investigation with third-party specialists determined that an unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems between January 30, 2026, and February 15, 2026, and copied certain files. Ford AV says it likely has your information if you are a current or former employee or the family member of a current or former employee.

Ford AV says it completed its review of the potentially affected files on September 18, 2026. Its letter is dated October 23, 2026, more than eight months after the company became aware of the activity. The letter says the types of information subject to unauthorized acquisition include names, but the sample letter posted with the Massachusetts filing shows a placeholder where the other categories would appear. The Massachusetts filing lists name in the letter and marks Social Security numbers, financial account numbers and driver's license numbers as breached. The Vermont Attorney General's breach table lists Social Security numbers, government ID numbers and health records for this report. Ford AV is offering 24 months of credit monitoring through Experian IdentityWorks.

The Massachusetts filing lists 1 Massachusetts resident and the Vermont Attorney General lists 2 Vermonters affected. Ford AV has not disclosed a total number of affected individuals. The letter says the company has no evidence of identity theft or fraudulent activity. Whether Ford AV's security practices met legal standards, and whether the notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
