What happened in the Grant Street Group data breach
According to a notice letter dated October 9, 2026, sent on behalf of Grant Street Group ("Grant Street") by its outside counsel, on May 21, 2026 an attorney at Blank Rome LLP, a former third-party service provider to Grant Street, "was misled into uploading certain files to an external Google Drive folder during a social engineering attack." The letter says that within several hours the compromised device was taken offline and the files were deleted from that external folder, and that Blank Rome began an internal investigation with third-party cybersecurity professionals and notified law enforcement.
The letter states that Grant Street was informed of the incident on September 11, 2026, nearly four months after it occurred, and has conducted its own internal review of its breached files. According to the letter, those files included a W-9 form containing information including the recipient's name, Social Security number, address, and signature, and to Grant Street's knowledge no other sensitive personal or financial information of the recipient was compromised. The Massachusetts filing, reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General on October 20, 2026, lists name, social security number, address and signature and reports 1 Massachusetts resident. Grant Street is offering two years of free credit monitoring through Epiq Privacy Solutions ID, with an enrollment deadline of December 31, 2026.
Whether the files were adequately protected while in the hands of Grant Street's service provider, and whether the time it took to notify affected individuals caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
