Received an August 2026 breach notice from Healthfirst Bluegrass?

What happened
On or about December 18, 2025, Aesto, LLC, a vendor that provides healthcare data migration and archiving services for Healthfirst Bluegrass, Inc., identified a network security incident affecting a limited portion of its Amazon Web Services environment. That environment held information belonging to Healthfirst Bluegrass patients. Aesto reports that it contained the incident the same day, engaged external cybersecurity professionals to investigate, notified law enforcement, and put additional safeguards in place.
After a forensic investigation and a manual document review, Aesto confirmed on May 26, 2026 that between on or about December 2 and December 18, 2025, an unauthorized actor may have accessed or acquired certain files. Aesto notified Healthfirst Bluegrass and other affected covered entities on June 26, 2026, and written notice to individuals was mailed on August 26, 2026 and filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General. According to that filing, the information involved may have included full name and Social Security number. Aesto states there is no evidence that the information has been misused. Healthfirst Bluegrass is offering impacted individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, together with up to $1 million in identity theft insurance, with enrollment open for 90 days from the date of the letter.
Healthcare providers and the vendors they hire are required under HIPAA and various state laws to safeguard patient information, and a provider's obligations generally do not disappear when records are handed to a third-party contractor. The gap of roughly eight months between the December 2025 discovery of the incident and the August 2026 mailing of notice letters is one of the factors our firm is reviewing, because notification delays can bear on claims under several state breach notification statutes. Social Security numbers do not change, so exposure of that data element carries a long-term identity theft risk.

Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter contains the enrollment code for credit monitoring and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Enroll in the free 24-month credit monitoring
Enroll in the Cyberscout monitoring offered in your letter. To activate, visit bfs.cyberscout.com/activate and enter the unique code printed in your notification letter, and complete enrollment within 90 days of the date of the letter. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because Social Security numbers may have been involved, also watch for unfamiliar Explanation of Benefits letters, medical bills for care you did not receive, and tax filings or new credit accounts opened in your name.
