What happened
According to the notice filed with the California Attorney General, Lincoln Property Company Commercial LLC became aware of a cybersecurity incident on March 24, 2026. The company engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the incident, and the investigation found that an unauthorized party gained access to certain files containing personal information. The company states the incident has been contained and that it notified law enforcement.
On September 3, 2026, Lincoln Property Company determined that specific individuals' information was affected, and notice letters dated October 1, 2026 were mailed to those individuals, roughly six months after the incident was discovered. Breach filings report 7,125 affected individuals, including 540 Massachusetts residents and 6,585 Texas residents. The sample letter filed in California lists names and leaves the remaining data elements unspecified, while state filings indicate the information may include Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license or state ID numbers, passport or other government ID numbers, financial account numbers, credit or debit card numbers, health insurance information, and medical information. The categories may vary by person.
Social Security numbers combined with government ID numbers and financial account or card information can support new account fraud, tax fraud, and unauthorized charges, while health insurance and medical information can be misused for medical identity theft. Companies that collect this information have duties under state data security and breach notification laws to protect it and to notify affected people without unreasonable delay.
