What happened
Minnesota Health Insurance Network, a health insurance brokerage headquartered in Burnsville, Minnesota, reported that an unauthorized party gained access to its computer network between March 16 and March 17, 2026. According to the company, it maintained affected individuals' information in connection with brokering insurance policies, including with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. The company says it launched an investigation with outside cybersecurity professionals to determine the scope of the intrusion and the information involved.
The company states that its review concluded on June 4, 2026, and it filed a breach report with the Massachusetts Attorney General on July 19, 2026. The filing identified one affected Massachusetts resident, though the total number of individuals affected across all states has not been publicly confirmed. The company reported that full names and Social Security numbers were removed from its network in connection with the incident. Affected individuals were offered complimentary Equifax Credit Watch Gold credit monitoring, with an enrollment deadline of October 31, 2026. The gap of roughly four months between the March intrusion and the July breach report is a point Dapeer Law is examining.
Because Social Security numbers are among the most sensitive categories of personal data, their exposure can carry a long-term risk of identity theft and financial fraud that may not surface immediately. Individuals who received a notice may wish to review the steps below and monitor their credit closely.
