What happened
On August 31, 2026, Onward Consulting Corp., which does business as Onward Research, filed a data breach notice with the Massachusetts Attorney General reporting that an unauthorized third party gained access to the company website at onwardresearch.com on August 7, 2026. According to the notice, the intruder created an administrator account, installed hidden malicious software, and altered the site's normal operations. That activity caused transaction records, information the company states it does not normally collect or retain, to be exposed.
The company reports that it acted the same day the activity was identified, removing the malicious software, disabling the suspect administrator accounts, and deactivating any user passwords believed to be at risk so that customers would be prompted to reset their credentials. Onward Consulting engaged outside legal counsel and cybersecurity experts to investigate and says it is reviewing and enhancing its system security, governance practices, and monitoring. The notice states that names, addresses, email addresses, credit and debit card numbers, associated credit card information, and other personal information contained in transaction records may have been acquired. The Massachusetts filing reports five affected individuals, all Massachusetts residents. The company indicates it is offering services and guidance to help affected customers protect themselves, but the filing does not name a provider, a term, or an enrollment deadline.

Replace the card you used and reset your password
Contact your bank or card issuer, report that the card was used on a website affected by a compromise, and request a replacement card with a new number. Onward Consulting also deactivated passwords it believed were at risk, so set a new password for the site and change it anywhere else you reused it.
