What happened
According to a notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, Pinnacle Financial Partners reported that a data breach occurred at Mercadien, P.C., CPAs, an accounting and advisory firm that previously provided services to Pinnacle and maintained certain personal information in connection with that work. Mercadien discovered possible unauthorized access to its systems on or around November 7, 2025. Its investigation determined that an unauthorized person accessed and acquired data between September 17, 2025 and October 9, 2025. The notice states that the incident occurred on Mercadien's network and did not affect Pinnacle's own systems or files.
After receiving the affected data set from Mercadien, Pinnacle determined on June 16, 2026 that individuals' information may have been involved, and it mailed notice letters on July 16, 2026, roughly eight months after the incident was first discovered. According to the notice, the information involved may include name, address, Social Security number, and driver's license number. Pinnacle is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection through IDX, with an enrollment deadline of October 16, 2026. Mercadien reported that it is not aware of any actual or attempted misuse of the information.
Because a Social Security number and a driver's license number were reported to be among the data involved, notice recipients may face an elevated risk of identity theft and financial fraud. Dapeer Law is evaluating whether affected individuals may have claims under Massachusetts and federal law, including claims relating to the length of time between the incident and notification and to the oversight of third-party service providers.
