What happened
On March 23, 2026, RCI Internet Services Inc. ("RCI Internet Services") detected a disruption on its computer network and launched an investigation with the assistance of independent cybersecurity specialists. That investigation determined that on March 19, 2026, an unauthorized party accessed and exfiltrated certain files from the company's systems.
RCI Internet Services completed its review of the affected files on May 13, 2026 and began mailing notification letters on or around May 28, 2026, roughly two months after the network disruption was discovered. According to notices filed with state regulators, the affected files contained personal information for 15,553 individuals and may include some combination of first and last name, Social Security number, driver's-license number, and passport number. The company is offering complimentary identity-protection services through IDX, with an enrollment deadline of August 28, 2026.
RCI Internet Services states that it has no evidence the compromised information has been misused to date. Whether the company's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the gap between discovery and notification caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
