What happened
On July 16, 2026, the Massachusetts Attorney General received a report from the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center, a Rhode Island nonprofit that has served children and adults with developmental disabilities since 1964, stating that a cybersecurity incident had exposed sensitive information belonging to 97 Massachusetts residents. The organization began notifying affected individuals by letter dated July 15, 2026.
According to the notice signed by President and Chief Executive Officer Al Vario, upon learning of the incident the organization immediately secured its network, engaged outside professionals to restore operations safely, and conducted a comprehensive review of its files to determine what information was involved and to whom it belonged. Trudeau Center also reported the event to federal law enforcement and states that it is reviewing its existing security controls and policies.
