What happened
On or about June 15, 2026, zHealth, Inc. ("zHealth") determined that an unauthorized third party had accessed its network and copied data from it. Working with outside legal counsel and third party forensic specialists, zHealth traced the intrusion to a narrow window between January 20 and January 21, 2026, meaning the activity went undetected for roughly five months before it was discovered.
zHealth completed its review of the potentially affected files on September 3, 2026 and began mailing notification letters on or around September 11, 2026, nearly eight months after the intrusion occurred. The notice filed with the California Attorney General states that the data elements involved vary by individual and does not itemize the specific categories of information or disclose how many people were affected. zHealth is offering 12 months of single bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, and credit scores through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, along with proactive fraud assistance services.
Because zHealth's software is used by chiropractic and wellness practices to schedule appointments, document patient encounters, and process billing and payments, the data held on its systems may include patient and practice records that carry both medical privacy and financial fraud exposure. Whether zHealth's pre-breach security practices met industry standards and legal obligations, and whether the length of the detection and notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
