Alderfer “Free Roaming” Eggs Class Action Settlement

Who Can File a Claim?

You may be eligible if you purchased Alderfer non-organic eggs for personal or household use in the United States between December 1, 2020, and the date of the final settlement approval order.

You do not need proof of purchase to file a claim for up to 2 cartons, but you will need to sign a sworn statement. If you have receipts or other documentation, you can claim more than 2 cartons.

You’re not eligible if you already received a full refund or opted out of the settlement.

About

If you purchased Alderfer non-organic eggs between December 1, 2020, and the date of the court’s final settlement approval, you may be eligible for a cash payment of $2–$3 per carton — even without a receipt.

The lawsuit alleges that Alderfer Family Farm and Alderfer Poultry Farm falsely advertised their eggs as coming from “free-roaming” hens when in fact, many hens were allegedly kept in cages. Consumers say they paid premium prices based on these misleading labels and wouldn’t have purchased the eggs if they knew the truth.

While Alderfer denies all wrongdoing, they have agreed to pay $287,500 to settle the case.

How Much Can You Receive?

Payments are based on the number of egg cartons claimed and the total number of claims filed:

  • Without proof: $2 per carton (up to 2 cartons)

  • With proof: $2 per carton (unlimited cartons)

  • Payout may increase to $3 per carton if fewer claims are submitted

Acceptable proof includes receipts, invoices, shipping documents, or order confirmations showing purchase of Alderfer non-organic eggs during the class period.
