What happened
On June 22, 2026, Anania & Associates Investment Company notified the Massachusetts Attorney General of an event that, in the company's words, "may affect the security" of some customer information. The notice was sent jointly on behalf of Anania & Associates, Anania & Associates Investment Company, and an affiliated entity, Microwave Techniques. The company stated that, due to requirements imposed by Massachusetts law, it was unable to provide details about the nature of the event in its letters to affected individuals.
The regulator filing indicates that 13 Massachusetts residents were affected and that Social Security numbers were among the information involved. Because the public notice does not describe the cause of the incident, the dates of any unauthorized access, or the full categories of data at issue, several facts remain unknown and are being evaluated. Anania is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, with enrollment required within 90 days of the letter date.
Exposure of a Social Security number can create a long-term risk of identity theft and financial fraud, because unlike a payment card a Social Security number cannot easily be changed. Dapeer Law is reviewing whether Anania & Associates had reasonable safeguards in place and whether affected individuals may have claims under applicable data protection laws.
