What happened
Bridgeport Capital Services, Inc. ("Bridgeport Capital Services" or "BCS"), which acts as the servicing agent for Bridgeport Capital Funding, LLC ("BCF"), reported a data security incident to the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General on September 11, 2026. According to the notification letter the company filed with the regulator, BCS recently discovered an incident that may have affected certain information it maintains about clients and related individuals. The letter states that the company determined the information involved in the incident may have included personal identifiers, and BCS began notifying affected individuals on the same date the filing was made. The Massachusetts filing lists 8 Massachusetts residents as affected in that state.
The notice identifies the categories of information that may have been involved as first and last name, contact information such as email address and phone number, Social Security number, driver's license number, date and/or place of birth, and client business account numbers. Bridgeport Capital Services is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks for 24 months from the date of the letter, with enrollment instructions and an activation code printed in each individual notice. The company states that it immediately took steps to secure its systems, strengthened its network perimeters and firewalls, and deployed advanced monitoring tools to detect and respond to potential threats. The notice does not state when the unauthorized access began, when it was discovered, or how long the actor had access before the activity was identified.
The combination of Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and dates of birth reported in this incident is the set of identifiers most commonly used to open fraudulent credit accounts, file fraudulent tax returns, and take over existing financial accounts, and it does not expire the way a payment card number does. Because BCS services accounts receivable factoring and related commercial financing arrangements, the files it maintains can include identification documents and financial records for business owners, guarantors, and employees of its client companies. Whether the company's data security practices met applicable legal standards before the incident, how long the unauthorized actor had access to its systems, and whether the categories of information involved were broader than the notice describes are among the issues being evaluated.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter contains the activation code for the Experian IdentityWorks services and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Enroll in the free 24-month Experian IdentityWorks monitoring
Enroll in the complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services offered in your letter, using the activation code printed in the notice, before the enrollment deadline stated there. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers were reported as involved, a security freeze with all three bureaus is worth considering in addition to a fraud alert, and it is also worth watching for tax filings and new accounts opened in your name.

Common questions
I received a data breach letter from Bridgeport Capital Services. What should I do? +
Keep the letter, activate the free Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring and identity protection services using the code in your notice, and review your bank, credit card, and business account statements for activity you did not authorize. Because the notice reports that Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers may have been involved, consider placing a fraud alert or a security freeze with all three major credit bureaus, and watch for tax returns or new credit accounts filed in your name. Then contact a data breach attorney for a free consultation. Enrolling in credit monitoring does not waive your right to sue.
Am I eligible to join a class action against Bridgeport Capital Services? +
If you received a September 2026 breach notice from Bridgeport Capital Services about this incident, you are likely eligible for a free case evaluation. Eligibility depends on your state of residence, the categories of your data that were involved, and any financial harm you have suffered. The Massachusetts filing reports 8 residents of that state, and the company has not published a nationwide total, so the affected group may be larger. Dapeer Law will review your notice at no cost.
How much money could I receive from a class action lawsuit? +
Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.
What personal information was exposed in the breach? +
According to the notification letter Bridgeport Capital Services filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, the information involved may have included one or more of the following: first and last name, contact information such as email address and phone number, Social Security number, driver's license number, date and/or place of birth, and client business account numbers. The letter describes these as the categories that may have been involved rather than confirming which applied to each person, so your individual letter should specify what was affected in your case.
Did Bridgeport Capital Services offer free credit monitoring? +
Yes. Bridgeport Capital Services is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks for 24 months from the date of the notice letter. Each letter contains an activation code and an enrollment deadline. The copy of the letter filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General leaves the enrollment deadline blank, so check the date printed on your own notice. Enrollment does not waive your right to pursue a claim.
How many people were affected by the Bridgeport Capital Services breach? +
The filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General reports 8 Massachusetts residents. Bridgeport Capital Services has not publicly disclosed a nationwide total, and the company services commercial financing accounts across multiple states, so the full number of people notified is likely higher. This page will be updated if filings in other states show a larger figure.
Is there a deadline to take legal action? +
Yes. Statutes of limitations for data breach claims vary by state and legal theory, typically ranging from one to six years. Waiting can permanently bar your claim. Contact us as soon as possible for a free evaluation.
How do I get a copy of the official breach notice? +
The notice is available as a PDF from the Massachusetts Attorney General's data breach notification records (linked in Sources below). If you received a letter but no longer have it, Dapeer Law can assist you in obtaining a copy during your free consultation.
