Background

What happened

On February 23, 2026, Caesars Entertainment, Inc. identified suspicious activity on certain cloud-hosted platforms used to store guest records. The company states that it activated its incident-response protocols, contained the intrusion, and engaged an outside cybersecurity firm to conduct a forensic investigation. Law enforcement was also notified. Caesars filed notice of the incident with the Maine Attorney General on May 19, 2026.

After completing its internal review, Caesars began mailing notices to affected individuals. Each recipient's letter identifies the specific categories of personal information involved, which Caesars has not described in detail in its public filing. The company is offering two years of complimentary IDX identity-theft protection, including credit and dark-web monitoring, $1 million in identity-theft insurance, and identity restoration services. Caesars states that, as of the date of notice, it has no indication that the information has surfaced on the dark web or been used to commit identity theft.

Notice recipients who handed Caesars information to book a stay, gamble, or participate in the Caesars Rewards loyalty program may be exposed to phishing, account takeover, and follow-on identity-theft risk. The roughly three-month gap between discovery and consumer notice may also be relevant under several state data breach notification laws, which generally require notice without unreasonable delay.

What to do if you received a letter

1

Keep your notice letter

Do not discard it. Your letter contains the IDX enrollment code and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.

2

Enroll in the free two-year IDX identity-theft protection

Use the activation code in your letter to enroll in the IDX services Caesars is offering before the stated deadline. The package includes credit and dark-web monitoring, $1 million in identity-theft insurance, and identity restoration. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.

3

Place a fraud alert or credit freeze

Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide.

FAQ

Common questions

I received a data breach letter from Caesars Entertainment. What should I do? +

Keep your Caesars Entertainment notice letter, activate the two-year IDX identity-theft protection using the enrollment code in your letter, place a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit files, watch for phishing emails, texts, and calls referencing Caesars or Caesars Rewards, and consider speaking with a data breach attorney about your options.

Am I eligible to join a class action against Caesars Entertainment? +

If you received a written notice from Caesars Entertainment about the cloud-platform incident, you may be eligible to participate. Final eligibility can depend on your state of residence, the specific categories of information involved in your notice, and any out-of-pocket losses or fraudulent activity you can document.

How much money could I receive from a class action lawsuit? +

Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.

What personal information was exposed in the breach? +

Caesars Entertainment's public filing does not list every category of data involved. Each affected individual's letter identifies the specific information Caesars believes was accessed for that person. Did Caesars Entertainment offer free credit monitoring? +

Yes. Caesars Entertainment is offering two years of complimentary IDX identity-theft protection, which includes credit and dark-web monitoring, $1 million in identity-theft insurance, and identity restoration services. Enrolling does not waive any legal claims you may have.

How many people were affected by the Caesars Entertainment breach? +

Caesars Entertainment has not publicly disclosed the total number of individuals affected as of its May 19, 2026 filing with the Maine Attorney General. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available.
