Background

What happened

On November 24, 2025, D'Ambrosio Dodge Inc. ("D'Ambrosio Dodge"), a Pennsylvania automotive retailer that operates new- and used-car dealerships and service centers headquartered in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, detected unusual activity in its computer systems. The company secured its network and engaged an independent digital forensics firm to investigate. By January 21, 2026, investigators had identified specific files that were accessed without authorization.

A detailed review of those files, completed on March 16, 2026, determined that they contained personal information relating to certain customers and employees. The company began mailing notification letters on May 5, 2026, more than five months after the breach was discovered. The public notice filed with the Maine Attorney General reports that affected information may include names, addresses, and additional account-specific data elements described in the letter as "Variable Data 1." The filing does not list Social Security numbers, driver's-license numbers, or payment-card data. D'Ambrosio Dodge is offering complimentary identity-theft protection through IDX, including credit and CyberScan monitoring, up to $1 million in insurance reimbursement, and fully-managed recovery support, with an enrollment deadline of August 5, 2026.

Because automotive dealerships routinely collect sensitive information from car buyers, finance applicants, service customers, and employees, the categories of exposed data may vary widely from individual to individual. Whether D'Ambrosio Dodge's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the multi-month notification delay caused additional harm to affected individuals, are among the issues being evaluated.

What to do if you received a letter

1

Keep your notice letter

Do not discard it. Your letter contains the IDX enrollment code for the free identity-theft protection services and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.

2

Enroll in the free IDX identity-theft protection before August 5, 2026

Enroll in the IDX credit monitoring, CyberScan monitoring, and identity-theft recovery services offered in your letter using the enrollment code provided, before the August 5, 2026 deadline. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.

3

Place a fraud alert or credit freeze

Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Pay particular attention to vehicle financing accounts, auto-loan inquiries, and any unfamiliar applications for credit, since automotive retailers routinely process financing and credit-application data.
