What happened in the GC Consultants data breach
On or about August 6, 2026, GC Consultants ("GC"), located in New York, New York, became aware of unusual activity in its network environment, according to its filing with the New Hampshire Attorney General. GC retained experts to investigate, and that investigation revealed that certain information may have been viewed and copied without authorization on August 6, 2026. The notice letters describe the incident as one experienced by Giuseppe Brusa CPA LLC and GC Consultants, together called "the Company", which the New Hampshire sample letter says provides professional services.
GC finished its review of the impacted information on September 11, 2026. The New Hampshire filing says notification letters were mailed on October 9, 2026, about two months after the activity was discovered. The New Hampshire filing lists Social Security Number, Date of Birth, Driver's License, Passport, USCIS-Alien Registration Number, financial account number, financial account number access, payment card number, and personal health information as data that may have been exposed. The Massachusetts filing lists Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account information and credit/debit card numbers. The sample letter attached to the New Hampshire filing does not show the categories for any individual reader.
The New Hampshire filing says GC is unaware of any actual or attempted misuse of information. The letters offer free single-bureau credit monitoring through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company: 12 months in the New Hampshire sample letter and 24 months in the Massachusetts letter. Whether the Company's security practices met legal standards, and whether the notification timing caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
