What happened in the SSB data breach
On August 3, 2026, SSB ("SSB"), located at 87 Market Street in Saugerties, New York, identified a network disruption resulting from a security incident within the environment of its managed service provider. According to SSB's notice to the New Hampshire Attorney General, SSB launched an investigation and learned that certain files were acquired by an unauthorized individual. SSB then reviewed those files and completed that review on September 21, 2026.
SSB's notice letters are dated October 9, 2026, and its New Hampshire filing says that on or about October 9, 2026, SSB provided written notice to eight New Hampshire residents, about nine weeks after it identified the incident. The New Hampshire filing says the potentially impacted information includes first and last name and Social Security number. The Massachusetts filing lists Social Security numbers, and the Vermont Attorney General's table lists Social Security Numbers. The sample letter says the information involved may have included your name and other data elements that are left as a placeholder in the posted copy, and that there is no evidence that debit card numbers, financial account numbers, or information within SSB's Core banking system were involved. SSB is offering a complimentary 24-month Experian IdentityWorks membership.
Whether SSB's data security practices, including its arrangements with its managed service provider, met legal standards is among the issues being evaluated.
