What happened
According to the notice filed with the California Attorney General, Harman Fitness experienced a data security incident involving unauthorized access to its network on September 4, 2025. Harman states that, upon learning of the issue, it took steps to secure its systems and began an investigation with the assistance of external cybersecurity professionals.
On September 1, 2026, nearly a year after the intrusion, the investigation determined that certain files containing personal information may have been subject to unauthorized access. Harman began mailing notice letters dated October 5, 2026, and regulatory filings list 1,057 individuals as affected. The notice states that the information involved included names and, if provided to Harman, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state identification numbers, passport numbers, health information, financial information, and bank account numbers with routing numbers. Texas filings also reference credit or debit card numbers, addresses, and dates of birth. Harman is offering complimentary Experian IdentityWorks services, with enrollment required by December 31, 2026.
The combination of Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, bank account and routing numbers, and health information can support identity theft, account takeover, and medical identity fraud. The roughly 13 months between the intrusion and the notice letters is a central issue Dapeer Law is evaluating under California and other state data breach laws.
