What happened
On or about March 18, 2026, HumanEdge, Inc. ("HumanEdge"), a White Plains, New York staffing and recruiting firm, detected suspicious activity on its computer network and began an investigation with outside cybersecurity specialists. That investigation determined that certain files may have been accessed and/or acquired without authorization in connection with the incident. In its filing with the California Attorney General, HumanEdge identified the dates of the incident as March 17 and March 18, 2026.
HumanEdge completed its review of the affected files on August 13, 2026 and mailed notification letters dated September 1, 2026, reporting the incident to the California Attorney General the following day. That is more than five months after the suspicious activity was first detected. The sample notice states only that the information involved "may have included your name" plus a variable data field, so the public filing does not itemize every category of data. HumanEdge is offering complimentary identity-protection services through IDX, which include credit and CyberScan monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and managed identity theft recovery services, with an enrollment deadline of December 1, 2026.
Because staffing and recruiting firms typically collect Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and payroll and tax information from applicants and placed employees in order to onboard and pay them, the categories of data at risk in an incident of this kind can be broad. Whether HumanEdge's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the five-month notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
