What happened
According to a notice IRCO Community Federal Credit Union filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, Mercadien P.C., Certified Public Accountants, a former service provider to the credit union, detected suspicious activity in its computer network on November 7, 2025. A subsequent investigation determined that an unauthorized party had accessed files stored in Mercadien's Box environment that contained IRCO member information. IRCO has stated that its own systems and operations were not affected.
IRCO began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on July 2, 2026, roughly eight months after the suspicious activity was first detected. The credit union has said it is not aware of any fraud or identity theft resulting from the incident, and it is offering affected members a complimentary Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B membership to help detect and address any potential misuse of their information. Enrollment instructions are included in the mailed letter.
The filing reported that 9 Massachusetts residents were affected and that the exposed information included names, Social Security numbers, and financial account information. Because Social Security numbers and financial account details can be used to open fraudulent accounts or commit identity theft, individuals who received a letter may wish to monitor their accounts and credit reports closely.
