Background

What happened in the LakeView data breach

On July 8, 2026, LakeView, a company based in Henderson, Nevada, identified suspicious activity associated with one employee email account, according to its notice. LakeView secured the account and started an investigation, which identified two additional employee accounts that were also involved. LakeView says it could not determine when the accounts were initially accessed or what emails may have been involved, and its letter to individuals describes the event as an email phishing incident.

LakeView reviewed all emails and attachments in the three accounts for personal information, and the review was completed on September 15, 2026. The New Hampshire Attorney General filing says the information involved included names and financial account numbers. The Massachusetts filing lists financial account information and Social Security numbers. The template letter posted with the New Hampshire filing shows the data elements only as a placeholder, so your own letter should state which of your information was involved.

According to the New Hampshire filing, LakeView mailed a notification letter on October 13, 2026, more than three months after the suspicious activity was identified. The New Hampshire letter does not mention credit monitoring; the letter filed in Massachusetts offers 24 months of Kroll identity monitoring. LakeView states that it is not affiliated with Osaic Wealth, Inc., but that its financial professionals are licensed with Osaic for the sale of securities and provision of financial advice. Whether LakeView's email security practices met legal standards, and whether the timing of the notice caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
