What happened
Lennar Mortgage, LLC learned on June 1, 2026 of suspicious activity within a limited portion of its information systems. The company engaged a third-party digital forensics firm, which determined that a threat actor had used what Lennar Mortgage described as sophisticated social engineering tactics to gain access between May 26 and June 1, 2026. Lennar Mortgage says it secured its environment, notified law enforcement, and implemented additional technical security measures.
The company completed its review of the affected data on August 4, 2026, and filed breach notices with the California and Texas Attorneys General on August 14, 2026, reporting 60,526 affected individuals. The notice states that the information involved may have included name and contact information, physical address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification number, passport number, financial account, credit or debit card numbers, and medical information. Lennar Mortgage arranged two years of complimentary identity monitoring and fraud resolution support through Kroll for those affected. Roughly two and a half months passed between discovery and the mailing of individual notices.
Mortgage origination and servicing files are among the most sensitive records a consumer ever hands over, combining Social Security numbers and government identification with income, asset and account information. That combination is what identity thieves need to open credit in someone else's name or to attempt a fraudulent loan, so notice recipients should read the categories printed in their own letter closely and monitor credit and loan activity rather than only watching for card fraud.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter lists the categories of information involved for you specifically and contains the unique membership number needed to activate monitoring. It is also important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Enroll in the free 24-month identity monitoring
Activate the Kroll identity monitoring and fraud resolution services offered in your letter at enroll.krollmonitoring.com, using the membership number printed on it, before the activation deadline it states. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because mortgage files include Social Security numbers and financing details, also watch for new mortgage, auto, credit card or utility accounts opened in your name, and consider a credit freeze with all three bureaus.
