What happened
According to a notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, M Advisory Group discovered on October 20, 2025 that an unauthorized third party had gained access to an employee email account. The company reports that it immediately secured and remediated the affected mailbox, engaged outside cybersecurity specialists, and launched a forensic investigation to determine what happened and what information may have been affected.
The forensic review determined that messages inside the compromised mailbox contained personal information. The Massachusetts filing lists one affected individual, a Massachusetts resident. The company began mailing notice letters on July 2, 2026, roughly eight months after the incident was discovered, and is offering affected individuals 24 months of single-bureau credit monitoring, credit reporting, and credit score access through Cyberscout, together with fraud-assistance services. The categories of information the company reports as potentially involved include name, Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, and medical or health information.
Because the reported data elements can include Social Security numbers and medical or health information, affected individuals may face heightened risk of identity theft, tax fraud, and medical identity theft. Dapeer Law is evaluating whether the roughly eight-month gap between discovery and notification, and the security measures in place before the incident, may support claims under applicable state data breach and consumer protection laws.
