What happened
The City of New Britain reported that it experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting certain internal systems that held personal information. Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers are among the most sensitive identifiers a person holds, because unlike a payment card they cannot be reissued easily and can be used to open credit, file fraudulent tax returns, or obtain government identification for years after a breach. The City's public notification does not identify the cause of the incident, the dates unauthorized access occurred, or when the activity was discovered.
