What happened
Molod Spitz & DeSantis, P.C., a New York-based insurance defense law firm, reported that an unauthorized actor accessed its network on or around August 15, 2025. The firm engaged external cybersecurity professionals to conduct a forensic review and completed a manual document review, which confirmed on June 26, 2026 that certain files containing personal information were potentially viewed or acquired.
The firm filed notice with the Massachusetts Attorney General and began mailing letters to potentially affected individuals on July 17, 2026, roughly eleven months after the reported network intrusion. According to the public notice, the personal information involved was limited to full names. As of the notice date, the firm states it has no evidence that the information has been misused. Impacted individuals are being offered complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection through Epiq (Privacy Solutions ID); the enrollment details are contained in each person's individual letter.
Because Molod Spitz & DeSantis is a law firm, individuals whose information it held may have had it on file in connection with insurance and litigation matters. Whether the firm's pre-breach security practices met applicable legal standards, and whether the roughly eleven-month gap between the reported intrusion and notification caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
