What happened
On September 10, 2025, MPB Property LLC ("MPB Property") detected unusual activity within its network environment. The company states that it secured its network and engaged external cybersecurity professionals to investigate. A forensic review confirmed that an unauthorized actor accessed, and likely removed, certain files between September 7 and September 10, 2025.
After an extensive manual review of the affected files, MPB Property determined on April 23, 2026 that personal information was present in the impacted data. The company began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on or around May 21, 2026, roughly eight months after the suspicious activity was first discovered, and filed notice with the Maine Attorney General on May 27, 2026. According to that filing, the data elements involved include first and last name together with an additional data field labeled "Extra1," which the public notice does not further describe.
MPB Property reports that it has strengthened its safeguards and is offering complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorks, including identity-restoration services should fraud arise from the incident. The filing does not state how long the monitoring is offered, the total number of people affected, or the precise nature of the "Extra1" data field. Whether MPB Property's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the lengthy notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
