What happened
On May 19, 2026, National Corporate Housing discovered that paper records were missing from a locked storage room at its Denver, Colorado location. According to the notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, an unauthorized individual entered the room and removed paper files containing human-resources information, at some point between January 1, 2026 and May 19, 2026. The company reported the incident to the Greenwood Village Police Department the same day it was discovered.
National Corporate Housing began mailing written notices on August 7, 2026, roughly 80 days after the incident was discovered. The company states that the removed documents contained some or all of the following: name, address, Social Security number, driver's license number, and date of birth. No credit card, debit card, or other financial account information was involved. Affected individuals are being offered 24 months of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks identity monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity-theft restoration services, with an activation code and enrollment deadline printed in each letter.
Because the files contained Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and dates of birth together, affected individuals face an elevated and long-lasting risk of identity theft, fraudulent credit applications, and tax-related fraud. A physical theft of paper records also leaves no forensic log of what was read, copied, or shared, which can make the true scope harder to bound than in a network intrusion. Whether National Corporate Housing's physical safeguards for personnel files met legal standards, and whether the roughly 80-day notification delay caused additional harm to affected individuals, are among the issues being evaluated.

Because Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and dates of birth were involved, also consider requesting an IRS Identity Protection PIN to help block fraudulent tax returns, and contact your state driver's license agency if you see unfamiliar license or ID activity.
