What happened
Pathfinder LL&D Insurance Group, a Houston, Texas insurance brokerage founded in 1913, has disclosed that an unauthorized actor accessed files on its network between September 6 and September 8, 2025. The company states it determined on July 7, 2026 that the accessed files contained personal information belonging to identifiable individuals. Notification letters were mailed on July 30, 2026, and the incident was reported to the Massachusetts Attorney General on August 2, 2026 and to the Texas Attorney General on August 4, 2026.
The regulatory filings report that 7,804 individuals were notified, including 7,802 Texas residents and 2 Massachusetts residents. According to the notice, the affected files may have contained one or more of the following: name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification number, government-issued identification such as a passport number, financial account or credit and debit card number, health insurance information, and medical information. The Massachusetts notice states that Social Security numbers were not impacted for Massachusetts residents. The notice does not describe an offer of complimentary credit monitoring.
Pathfinder LL&D says it secured its network environment, engaged outside cybersecurity professionals, conducted a manual review of the affected files, and continues to evaluate its internal controls. Roughly ten months passed between the September 2025 access and the company's July 2026 determination that personal information was involved. That interval, and whether the company maintained reasonable data security practices for the identifying, financial, and medical information in its custody, are among the questions being evaluated. The combination of Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, financial account data, and medical information reported in this incident is the profile most closely associated with identity theft, financial fraud, and medical identity fraud.
