What happened
According to a notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, a security incident at Salem Five occurred on July 10, 2026 that inadvertently disclosed a customer's personal information to another party. The bank has described the event as an isolated internal error rather than an external cyberattack.
Salem Five states that it investigated and addressed the incident internally to prevent a recurrence, and it began mailing notice letters on July 13, 2026, three days after the incident. According to the notice, the information involved included name, address, date of birth, account number, and Social Security number. The bank is offering affected individuals reimbursement for up to two years of Experian IdentityWorks Premium credit monitoring, and it stated that it believes the risk of fraud from the isolated incident is low.
Because a Social Security number and a bank account number were reported to be among the data disclosed, notice recipients may face an elevated risk of identity theft and financial fraud. Dapeer Law is evaluating whether affected individuals may have claims under Massachusetts and federal law.
