What happened
On April 29, 2026, St. Moritz Marine Service, Inc. ("St. Moritz"), a Maryland-based marina and boat service company headquartered at 20721 Garrett Highway in Oakland, Maryland, became aware of potential unauthorized access into its network that impacted certain systems. The company states that it took immediate action to secure its systems and engaged third-party specialists to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation confirmed that certain files were accessed or acquired by an unauthorized third party.
St. Moritz completed its investigation and file review on June 16, 2026 and began mailing notification letters on July 13, 2026, roughly two and a half months after the intrusion was discovered. According to the notice filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General, the impacted files may have contained affected individuals' first and last name together with their Social Security number and driver's license number. The company states it has no evidence of fraud or misuse of the information and is notifying individuals out of an abundance of caution. St. Moritz is offering 24 months of complimentary online credit monitoring and fraud-assistance services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.
The combination of a full name with a Social Security number and driver's license number is among the more sensitive data pairings, because those identifiers can be used to open fraudulent accounts, file false tax returns, or commit identity theft long after the breach. Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide.
Because Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers were reportedly involved, consider placing a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file with each of the three major credit bureaus, and requesting an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) from the IRS to guard against tax-refund fraud.
