What happened
Stitch Connect Inc, which operates the Stitch online community platform, has notified members of a cybersecurity incident. According to the sample notice filed with the California Attorney General, Stitch was the target of a "sustained and sophisticated series of hacking attacks" over roughly one week, and the attackers were able to access information about a portion of its members. The notice states that some affected accounts had already been closed, because the company retains certain information for a period of time after an account is deleted.
The incident was reported to the Texas Attorney General on October 16, 2026 and to the California Attorney General on October 18, 2026, with 4,062 individuals reported as affected. Regulatory filings indicate the compromised information may include names, dates of birth, and medical information. The notice to members states that profile information was accessed, which could include first names, profile photos, bios, interests, suburb location, preferences, and account status, and that the attacker reached the last private message sent between certain members. Stitch says no passwords or credit card information were taken, that it blocked the attacker, removed malicious accounts, and closed the route used to get in. The notice does not offer complimentary credit monitoring or identity protection.
Profile details such as photos, interests, location, and private messages are highly personal on a community and companionship platform. Combined with a date of birth or medical information, this kind of data can be used to craft convincing scam emails, texts, or calls, and to target members for romance or impersonation fraud. Stitch itself warned members to treat unexpected contact with the highest degree of suspicion.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not delete it. Your notice email is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit, and it confirms that your account was among those affected.
Watch for scams and consider a fraud alert
Stitch Connect has not offered complimentary credit monitoring. Be skeptical of unexpected emails, texts, or calls that mention Stitch or your personal details, and avoid sharing more information with unknown contacts. You can place a free fraud alert by contacting Equifax at (800) 525-6285, Experian at (888) 397-3742, or TransUnion at (800) 680-7289. Taking these protective steps does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because profile photos, interests, and location details may have been accessed, watch for impersonation attempts and fake profiles using your information. Monitor your online accounts for suspicious activity and report suspected identity theft to the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov.
