Background

What happened

On September 12, 2025, STS Aviation Group ("STS") identified unauthorized access to certain of its systems. According to the sample notice filed with the California Attorney General, an unauthorized third party accessed STS systems on or around August 5, 2025. STS engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate, blocked the unauthorized access, implemented additional safeguards, and reported the incident to law enforcement.

On September 19, 2026, STS determined that the unauthorized third party had obtained certain personal information. Notification letters dated October 19, 2026 were sent to affected individuals, more than 13 months after the intrusion was discovered. The notice states that the information involved varied by person and may include names, contact information, dates of birth, Social Security, driver's license and passport numbers, financial account and payment card information, medical and health insurance information, fingerprints, race and ethnicity, and work-related records such as salary, evaluations, and workers' compensation claims. STS is offering two years of complimentary Experian IdentityWorks credit monitoring.

Separate state filings report 319 Massachusetts residents and 5,920 Texas residents affected, a known total of 6,239 so far. Because the exposed data may combine Social Security numbers, biometric fingerprint data, and medical information, affected individuals may face elevated identity theft and medical fraud risk. Whether STS's security practices met legal standards, and whether the lengthy notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
