What happened
According to a notice filed with the California Attorney General, Sunrise Company detected suspicious activity on its systems and moved to contain the event and investigate. The investigation determined that on April 23, 2026, an unauthorized actor gained access to the company's network and acquired certain files. Sunrise Company states it was in possession of the affected information through its relationships with affiliated businesses.
Sunrise Company recently completed a review of the impacted data to determine what information was involved and to whom it related, and it began mailing notification letters dated July 28, 2026. The company reports that the affected files included recipients' names along with additional personal details identified in each individual notification letter. Sunrise Company says there is currently no evidence that the information was misused or that identity theft or fraud has resulted from the event, though the roughly three-month gap between the incident and notification is a factor our review is evaluating.
The company is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian, and states it is reviewing its information-security policies, procedures, and employee training and notifying state and federal regulators. Because the public notice does not itemize every category of data involved, notice recipients should review their individual letters closely to confirm what information may have been exposed.
