Background

What happened

On June 12, 2026, Universal Plant Services, LLC ("Universal Plant Services"), an industrial and energy services company headquartered in Deer Park, Texas, detected suspicious activity within its computer network. The company engaged a third-party digital forensics team, and that investigation determined that an unauthorized individual had access to company systems between June 8 and June 12, 2026 and viewed files containing personal information. Universal Plant Services reports that it reset user passwords, secured the affected accounts, and completed a full investigation of the incident.

The company completed its review of the affected files on July 14, 2026, then began notifying affected individuals and regulators, including a notice filed with the California Attorney General on August 12, 2026. The notice states that the information involved may include first and last name in combination with Social Security number, driver's license number, and/or financial account information. Universal Plant Services is offering complimentary identity-monitoring services through Kroll, with the service term and activation deadline printed in each individual letter.

Roughly two months passed between the company's detection of the intrusion on June 12, 2026 and the notification of affected individuals in August 2026. Whether Universal Plant Services' pre-breach security practices met legal standards, whether the notification timeline complied with applicable state breach notification laws, and whether the exposure of Social Security and financial account data has increased the risk of identity theft are among the issues being evaluated.

What to do if you received a letter

1

Keep your notice letter

Do not discard it. Your letter contains the enrollment code for the identity-monitoring service and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.

2

Enroll in the free Kroll identity monitoring

Enroll in the Kroll identity-monitoring service offered in your letter before the activation deadline printed on it. Accepting this benefit does not waive your right to pursue legal action.

3

Place a fraud alert or credit freeze

Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because Social Security numbers and financial account information may have been involved, also watch for unfamiliar bank or card transactions and for tax filings submitted in your name.
