What happened
On February 19, 2026, ACME Truck Line, Inc. ("ACME Truck Line") discovered a cyber-attack in which an unauthorized party exploited vulnerabilities in third-party security software to gain access to certain ACME computer systems. According to ACME, a vendor responsible for threat monitoring did not escalate early warning signs, allowing the threat actor to penetrate the network. ACME states it contained the intrusion the same day, retained an outside forensic cybersecurity firm, and notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
ACME began mailing written notices to affected individuals on April 30, 2026, approximately two months after discovery, and reported the incident to the Maine Attorney General on May 1, 2026. According to the company's notice, the affected files may have contained one or more of the following data elements: full name, Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license number, financial account and direct-deposit details, tax-withholding records, and health-insurance enrollment information. ACME is offering 24 months of three-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, and fraud-assistance services through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company) at no cost to affected individuals.
Whether ACME's pre-breach security practices and vendor oversight met legal standards under applicable state and federal laws, and whether the combination of Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, direct-deposit details, and tax-withholding records heightens the long-term risk of identity theft, payroll diversion, and tax-refund fraud for affected individuals, are among the issues being evaluated.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter contains the enrollment code for the free 24-month Cyberscout credit-monitoring services and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Enroll in the free 24-month credit monitoring
Enroll in the Cyberscout (TransUnion) three-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, and fraud-assistance services offered in your letter before the stated deadline. Accepting these benefits does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide.
Because Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial and direct-deposit details, and tax-withholding records were among the data elements reportedly involved, consider placing a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file with each of the three major credit bureaus, requesting an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) from the IRS to guard against tax-refund fraud, and watching for unauthorized changes to your direct-deposit instructions or payroll account.

Common questions
I received a data breach letter from ACME Truck Line. What should I do? +
Keep the letter, enroll in the free 24-month Cyberscout credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, and fraud-assistance services before the deadline printed in your notice, review your bank, payroll, and health-insurance statements for unfamiliar activity, request your credit reports and place a fraud alert or security freeze if necessary, consider requesting an IRS Identity Protection PIN given the exposure of tax-withholding records, and contact a data breach attorney for a free consultation. Am I eligible to join a class action against ACME Truck Line? +
If you received an April 30, 2026 breach notice from ACME Truck Line, you are likely eligible for a free case evaluation. Eligibility is not limited to Maine residents and depends on your state of residence, the categories of your data that were exposed, and any losses you have suffered. How much money could I receive from a class action lawsuit? +
Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.
What personal information was exposed in the breach? +
ACME's notice states that the affected files may have contained one or more of the following: full name, Social Security number, date of birth, driver's license number, financial account and direct-deposit details, tax-withholding records, and health-insurance enrollment information. Not every individual had every element exposed. Your individual notice letter should specify the categories of your data that were involved.

ACME is providing 24 months of three-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, credit scores, and fraud-assistance services through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company) at no cost to affected individuals.
