What happened
On October 9, 2025, Law Offices of Alan M. Cohen & Associates LLC ("AMC"), a Massachusetts commercial collections law firm, detected suspicious activity inside its computer network. An investigation conducted with outside forensic specialists determined that between October 1 and October 9, 2025, an unauthorized third party accessed AMC's systems and may have viewed and copied files containing personal information.
AMC completed its review of the affected data on April 17, 2026 and began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on or around April 22, 2026, more than six months after the breach was discovered. The firm's notice does not publicly itemize the specific categories of data involved. AMC is offering 24 months of single-bureau credit monitoring through Cyberscout (TransUnion). Whether the firm's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the notification delay caused additional harm, are among the issues being evaluated.
