What happened
Between October 16 and October 19, 2023, a third-party criminal cyberattack targeted Comcast's systems and gained unauthorized access to customers' personal information. Comcast publicly disclosed the breach on December 18, 2023 and sent individual notices to affected customers. A class action was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications, LLC, Case No. 2:23-cv-05039-JMY), alleging that Comcast failed to properly protect personal information, had inadequate data security, violated the federal Cable Act, and violated certain state consumer statutes.
Comcast denies any wrongdoing or that it violated any law. To avoid the costs and risks of trial, the parties agreed to a $117.5 million settlement fund. Class members may claim a flat Alternative Cash Payment of approximately $50 with no proof required, or file for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses and lost time up to a combined cap of $10,000. All class members also automatically receive three years of CyEx Financial Shield identity monitoring with $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Common questions
What benefits can I claim?
You have two options. Option A: file for the Alternative Cash Payment of approximately $50 with no documentation required (subject to pro rata adjustment). Option B: file for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses and up to 5 hours of lost time at $30 per hour ($150 max), subject to a combined cap of $10,000. You will receive the greater of your approved Option B amount or the Alternative Cash Payment. All class members also automatically receive three years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete identity monitoring with $1 million in identity theft insurance, regardless of whether they file a claim.
What documentation do I need?
The Alternative Cash Payment requires no documentation. Out-of-pocket loss claims require "Reasonable Documentation" such as credit card statements, bank statements, invoices, telephone records, or receipts. Self-prepared documents like handwritten receipts are by themselves insufficient but may support other documentation. Lost time claims require a self-certified attestation explaining how you spent the time and how it was related to the Data Breach.
What if I am not sure whether I was affected?
You can use the ID Look Up Form on comcastbreachsettlement.com to check whether Comcast's records identify you as a class member. You can also call the Settlement Administrator at (833) 319-2401 or write to Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue Comcast later?
Yes. By remaining in the Settlement Class (whether you file a claim or do nothing), you release your claims against Comcast and other Released Parties related to the Data Breach. To preserve your right to sue, you must mail or submit online a Request for Exclusion by June 1, 2026 to the Settlement Administrator at P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324. Online opt-outs must be verified by the deadline using a link sent to your email.
When will payments be sent out?
The Court is scheduled to hold a Final Approval Hearing on July 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. ET in Philadelphia. Payments will be issued after the Settlement is approved and any appeals are resolved. Identity monitoring enrollment codes were included in the breach notification sent to class members. Check comcastbreachsettlement.com for updates on timing.
