Background

What happened

On October 6, 2025, Charlie Condon Law Firm, LLC ("Charlie Condon Law Firm"), a small South Carolina law firm headquartered at 880 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, detected suspicious activity within its digital environment. The firm engaged outside cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the incident, and the investigation determined that an unauthorized party had accessed the firm's network and acquired certain files containing personal information.

The firm completed its review of the potentially affected files on May 4, 2026 and began mailing notification letters to impacted individuals on May 8, 2026, more than seven months after the suspicious activity was first discovered. A formal breach filing was submitted to the Maine Attorney General on May 9, 2026. According to the notice, the data involved each affected individual's name in combination with additional personal data elements identified in the recipient's letter. Charlie Condon Law Firm is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity-theft recovery services through IDX, including credit bureau monitoring, CyberScan dark-web surveillance, up to $1 million in identity-theft insurance, and fully managed identity-recovery assistance.

Because law firms routinely hold sensitive client information, the specific categories of data potentially exposed in this incident, whether Charlie Condon Law Firm's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the multi-month notification delay caused additional harm to affected individuals, are among the issues being evaluated.
