What happened
Between on or around November 8, 2025 and December 3, 2025, an unauthorized party gained access to systems used by Miller Insurance Protection Team, an insurance agency operating online at millerins-team.com. The company has stated that, upon detecting the incident on December 3, 2025, it secured its network to prevent further unauthorized access and engaged outside cybersecurity professionals to conduct a forensic investigation. The investigation determined that files containing personal information were present in the environment during the period of unauthorized access.
Miller Insurance Protection Team completed its review of the potentially affected data on April 10, 2026 and filed a formal breach notice with the Maine Attorney General on May 9, 2026, more than five months after the suspicious activity was first discovered. The public filing states only that the impacted files contained the recipient's personal information, without itemizing the specific categories of data (such as Social Security numbers, financial account details, or health information) involved. The company is offering complimentary identity-monitoring services that include credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity-theft restoration.
Because insurance agencies routinely collect highly sensitive policyholder information, the specific categories of data potentially exposed in this incident, whether Miller Insurance Protection Team's pre-breach security practices met applicable legal and industry standards, and whether the multi-month notification delay caused additional harm to affected individuals, are among the issues being evaluated.

Am I eligible to join a class action against Miller Insurance Protection Team? +

Eligibility depends on your state of residence, the categories of your data that were exposed, and any losses you have suffered. Dapeer Law will review your notice at no cost.
How much money could I receive from a class action lawsuit? +
Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.
What personal information was exposed in the breach? +
Miller Insurance Protection Team's public filing with the Maine Attorney General states only that the impacted files contained the recipient's personal information, without itemizing the specific categories in the public notice. Because insurance agencies routinely collect sensitive customer information, the exposed data may include some combination of names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account information, or insurance policy details. Your individual notice letter should specify the categories of your data that were involved.
Did Miller Insurance Protection Team offer free credit monitoring? +
Yes. Miller Insurance Protection Team is offering complimentary identity-monitoring services that include credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity-theft restoration through the provider identified in your notice letter. Use the unique enrollment code printed in your notice and enroll before the deadline stated in the letter. Enrollment is separate from, and does not waive, your right to pursue a claim.
How many people were affected by the Miller Insurance Protection Team breach? +
The total number of affected individuals was not disclosed in the May 9, 2026 filing with the Maine Attorney General. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available.
Is there a deadline to take legal action? +
Yes. Statutes of limitations for data breach claims vary by state and legal theory, typically ranging from one to six years. Waiting can permanently bar your claim. Contact us as soon as possible for a free evaluation.
How do I get a copy of the official breach notice? +
The notice filed with the Maine Attorney General is available through the Maine AG's public data breach portal (linked in Sources below). If you received a letter but no longer have it, Dapeer Law can assist you in obtaining a copy during your free consultation.
