What happened
According to the notice filed with the California Attorney General, iRhythm Technologies, Inc. detected unauthorized access within certain third-party hosted business applications on June 8, 2026. A forensic investigation determined that threat actors accessed and downloaded data from those applications between June 3 and June 8, 2026. iRhythm states it activated its incident response plan on detection and engaged external cybersecurity professionals.
iRhythm began notifying affected individuals by letters dated October 2, 2026, nearly four months after the intrusion was discovered. Regulatory filings list 298,647 individuals as affected. The notice states that the information involved may include names, contact information (address, email address, and phone number), dates of birth, patient insurance numbers, dates of service, iRhythm account numbers, and iRhythm device serial numbers. The company states it has no evidence of identity theft or misuse to date, and the notice does not indicate that complimentary credit monitoring is being offered.
Because the information relates to medical services and health insurance, the exposure may carry risks beyond ordinary identity theft, including medical identity theft, insurance fraud, and targeted phishing that references real dates of service or device information. Dapeer Law is reviewing whether affected individuals may have claims under California and other state data breach and medical privacy laws.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter confirms that you were among the individuals identified in the iRhythm review and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Place a fraud alert or security freeze
The iRhythm notice does not indicate that complimentary credit monitoring is being offered. You can request a free credit report from each of the three bureaus and place a no-cost fraud alert or security freeze. Taking these protective steps does not waive your right to pursue legal action.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Because patient insurance numbers and dates of service were involved, also review the Explanation of Benefits statements from your health insurer for services or claims you do not recognize.

Common questions
I received a data breach letter from iRhythm. What should I do? +
Keep your breach notice letter, since it confirms you were affected. Place a free fraud alert or security freeze with the three credit bureaus, request your free credit reports, and review your financial and health insurance statements for unfamiliar activity. Because patient insurance numbers and dates of service were involved, watch closely for signs of medical identity theft. You can also contact a data breach attorney to understand your options.
Am I eligible to join a class action against iRhythm? +
If you received a breach notice from iRhythm, you may qualify. Eligibility typically depends on your state of residence, the categories of your information that were involved, and whether you have experienced any documented harm. A free consultation can clarify where you stand.

Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.
What personal information was exposed in the breach? +
According to the notice, the information involved may include names, contact information (address, email address, and phone number), dates of birth, patient insurance numbers, dates of service, iRhythm account numbers, and iRhythm device serial numbers. Check your individual letter, which may describe the specific information involved for you.
Did iRhythm offer free credit monitoring? +
The iRhythm notice recommends self-help measures, such as fraud alerts, security freezes, and free credit reports, but does not indicate that complimentary credit monitoring is being provided. Using these protections does not waive your right to pursue a claim.
