What happened
According to a filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General, Evergreen Children's Association ("Kids Co."), a Seattle-based nonprofit that operates before- and after-school child-care programs, identified unauthorized activity involving its email tenant. The organization conducted an investigation and determined that certain files containing personal information were accessible.
Kids Co. disclosed the incident on July 2, 2026 and began notifying affected individuals. The notification letter states that Social Security numbers were involved. Kids Co. is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity-theft protection through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company). The Massachusetts filing lists 2 affected individuals, all residing in Massachusetts.
Whether the organization's pre-breach security practices met legal standards, and whether the exposure of Social Security numbers created a lasting risk of identity theft, are among the issues being evaluated.

How much money could I receive from a class action lawsuit? +
Data breach class action recoveries vary significantly. Settlements typically range from a few hundred dollars for basic out-of-pocket losses to several thousand dollars for documented identity theft, with class size, damages, and negotiation all affecting the final amount. No payout is guaranteed, and this investigation has not yet resulted in a settlement.
What personal information was exposed in the breach? +
