What happened
Preferred Parking Service, LLC ("Preferred Parking") reported that an unauthorized party accessed its computer network and certain files stored on it on June 7 and June 8, 2026. According to the company, it secured the network after discovering the intrusion and opened an investigation to determine what information was involved.
Preferred Parking states that its review concluded on July 30, 2026 and confirmed that files containing customer names and credit card numbers had been removed from the network. The company filed notice with the Massachusetts and South Carolina Attorneys General on August 14, 2026 and began mailing letters to affected individuals the same day. State filings report 5,318 individuals affected in total, 5,176 in South Carolina and 142 in Massachusetts. The notices do not reference complimentary credit or identity-monitoring services. Roughly two months passed between the June 2026 intrusion and the August 2026 letters, and whether that timing satisfied state notification requirements is among the issues being evaluated.
Because the files at issue are reported to have contained full credit card numbers paired with customer names, the exposure carries a direct risk of fraudulent charges and of the card data being resold. Whether Preferred Parking stored payment card information in a reasonably secure manner, and whether its network safeguards met applicable legal and payment-industry standards, is also being evaluated.
What to do if you received a letter
Keep your notice letter
Do not discard it. Your letter identifies the categories of your information that were involved and is important evidence if you decide to participate in a lawsuit.
Watch your card statements and consider replacing the card
Because full credit card numbers are reported to have been taken, review your card and bank statements closely for charges you do not recognize, however small, and report anything unfamiliar to your card issuer right away. Ask your issuer about a replacement card number, and consider setting up transaction alerts.
Place a fraud alert or credit freeze
Contact Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to place a fraud alert or freeze on your file. Request a free weekly credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com, and use the FTC's IdentityTheft.gov recovery guide. Preferred Parking did not offer complimentary credit monitoring with this notice, so consider placing a free fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file and enrolling in a monitoring service.
