Generac PWRcell Settlement: $15 Million for Solar System Owners Hurt by SnapRS Failures — Claim by August 24, 2026
Generac PWRcell SnapRS Class Action Settlement
Generac has agreed to a $15 million settlement over allegations that SnapRS devices inside its PWRcell solar power systems can overheat, melt, or fail — causing system shutdowns and performance problems. Current owners and primary users of a Generac PWRcell system purchased before January 9, 2026 can file a claim for a pro-rata cash payment, plus additional reimbursement if they have out-of-pocket losses or documented energy-generation shortfalls tied to a SnapRS failure. The claim deadline is August 24, 2026.

What happened
Plaintiffs allege that SnapRS devices — rapid-shutdown safety components built into Generac PWRcell solar power systems — are defective: they can overheat, melt, or fail prematurely, triggering error codes and causing the entire system to shut down or underperform. The lawsuit, filed as a multi-district litigation in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, claims that Generac marketed and sold these systems without adequately disclosing the risk, leaving homeowners with underperforming solar installations and unexpected repair costs.
Generac Holdings Inc. and Generac Power Systems, Inc. deny the allegations and deny any wrongdoing or liability. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the cost, risk, and time of continued litigation. In addition to the cash fund, the settlement includes warranty improvements for systems purchased before May 2022 and educational materials about SnapRS-related error codes for all class members.
How to file a claim
-
1. Confirm you are eligible
You must be the current Owner or Primary User of a Generac PWRcell solar power system purchased in the United States before January 9, 2026. Both the owner and the primary user of the same system can each file a claim, but if either one opts out, both are excluded from the settlement.
-
2. Decide which tiers apply to you
Every eligible claimant receives a pro-rata share of a base fund — just prove your status as Owner or Primary User. If you have out-of-pocket expenses (repair bills, service calls) caused by a SnapRS problem, you may also claim reimbursement of those losses. If your system shows documented energy-generation shortfalls tied to a SnapRS failure in two or more months, you may qualify for a third, additional-compensation tier. Gather any relevant invoices, system monitoring reports, or service records before filing.
-
3. File online or by mail
Submit the Claim Form online at generacsnapsettlement.pnclassaction.com by August 24, 2026 (11:59 p.m. CDT), or mail a paper Claim Form (postmarked by August 24, 2026) to: Generac PWRcell Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 1628, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Online is fastest.
-
4. Receive your payment
Payments are issued after the Court grants final approval at the October 21, 2026 Fairness Hearing and any appeal period resolves. The appeal process can take a year or more. Electronic payment options will be available at claim time, or you can elect a paper check. No follow-up is required once your claim is submitted. Keep your contact information current with the administrator if your address changes.

Where the money is going
This is a non-reversionary common fund. Attorneys’ fees, service awards ($5,000 per class representative), and notice and administration costs are paid out of the $15 million before class member payments are calculated. The per-claimant share of the base-fund tier is pro rata, meaning it depends on how many valid claims are filed.
All amounts are pending and subject to final Court approval at the October 21, 2026 Fairness Hearing. The Court may award less than any amounts requested. Base-tier payments are pro rata: the per-claimant amount decreases as more valid claims are filed. Out-of-pocket and energy-generation reimbursement tiers are subject to eligibility and documentation requirements.
Common questions
How much money will I receive?
Every eligible claimant who establishes Owner or Primary User status receives a pro-rata share of the base fund — meaning the per-person amount is not fixed and depends on the total number of valid claims filed. Claimants with documented out-of-pocket losses (repair bills, service calls) caused by a SnapRS problem can claim reimbursement of those losses. Claimants who can document energy-generation shortfalls caused by SnapRS failures in two or more months may qualify for a third additional-compensation tier. The Claim Form on the settlement website describes the documentation requirements for each tier.
Do I need to submit proof of purchase?
To receive the base pro-rata payment, you only need to confirm your status as the current Owner or Primary User of an eligible PWRcell system. For the out-of-pocket loss tier, you will need satisfactory evidence of your expenses (e.g., invoices, receipts, service records). For the energy-generation loss tier, you will need satisfactory evidence of generation shortfalls in two or more months. Gather your system monitoring data, installer records, and any repair invoices before filing.
What if I didn’t receive a notice?
If you believe you qualify but did not receive a notice, you can still file a claim. Visit GeneracSnapSettlement.com or call 1-855-707-4196 to obtain a Claim Form. The online claim form at generacsnapsettlement.pnclassaction.com is open to all eligible class members through August 24, 2026.
Does staying in the class affect my right to sue later?
By staying in the Settlement Class and not opting out, you release all claims against Generac Holdings Inc., Generac Power Systems, Inc., and the other Released Parties related to the SnapRS allegations in this lawsuit. If you want to keep your right to sue Generac individually, you must submit a written opt-out request postmarked by July 20, 2026 to the Settlement Administrator. Note: if a system has both an Owner and a Primary User and either one opts out, both are excluded from the settlement.
When will payments be sent out?
Payments will be issued after the Court grants final approval at the October 21, 2026 Fairness Hearing and any appeal period has run. The appeal process can take a year or more after the Fairness Hearing. Check the settlement website for status updates.
