About

Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT) agreed to a $1 million class action settlement to resolve allegations that it failed to properly secure private information, leading to a data breach discovered in October 2022.

The breach potentially exposed sensitive data, including:

  • Full names

  • Social Security numbers

  • Tax identification numbers

  • Dates of birth

The lawsuit claims TMLT did not implement reasonable cybersecurity protections, allowing unauthorized access to customer data. While TMLT denies any wrongdoing, it chose to settle to avoid prolonged litigation and legal costs.

The settlement provides cash compensation and free credit monitoring to help affected individuals recover and protect themselves from potential identity theft.
